As often happens the son showed father how to do it. In hunting class Bruce Milne was first with an agg of 0.559; then Brett Regan 0.8563 and Arthur Robinson 0.9363. Arthur was sitting a close second to Bruce when a wind change just as he pulled the trigger on his last shot spelt disaster. On Sunday 16 shooters faced the line in a  centrefire Varmit for Score event over 100 yards.  In hunting class it was a close finish with three shooters on 237 with placings decided on the number of centres.  Clayton Hogno came out on top from Hamish Tait and new junior Tyler Chapman.  In masters class Don Ewin managed to hold off Mick Reed to take it by one point. Results for Sunday 23rd June
On Saturday John Butts, Roy Ewin (Gow) and Glenn Seaman travelled  to Batemans Bay to compete in the NSW Fly state titles. There were 32 entries in light gun and 20 in heavy gun. Glenn finished 18th in heavy, 24th in light and 42nd  overall.  John was 18th in light and 33rd overall.  Roy was 5th in light, 3rd in heavy, 7th overall and NSW junior champion.

On a very wet Sunday the 23rd Glenn Seaman again demonstrated his position as one of the top rimfire shooters in Australia when he won the NSW 200m rimfire fly championship at Batemans Bay.  To make it a family affair daughter Emily took out third place.  At the end of July the Seaman family will be on a plane to Europe where both Glenn and daughter Hanna will be part of the Australian team competing in the International Rimfire Bench world titles. The Riverina is well represented in this event with Narrandera shooter Chris Nocente also travelling; he is in both the rimfire and air rifle teams.  No wonder it is so hard to win a rimfire event locally.

On Sunday 21 shooters competed in the local 50y rimfire group event in mild conditions. Masters class was hotly contended and even Carlo’s 0.127” on the D target (yes that is five shots measuring roughly 1/8 of an inch centre to centre) was not enough to hold off the challenge by daughter Maddi who finished with an agg of 0.2674”. Third went to Rob Waugh on 0.3642”.  In hunting class it was Don Ewin 0.3852 from Terry Robinson 0.3972; then Terry’s son Logan Robinson 0.4530.  The heart break story goes to new junior Tyler Chapman who shot extremely well, including a 0.1840” on his D target then an almost three inch group on his last target blew it all apart – that’s shooting.  Our other junior, Ryan Mitchell, shot consistently to finish on 0.9568.
There will not be any competition on the 29/30 as it is the fifth weekend but the range will be open as normal – 1 to 4 Saturday and 9 to 4 on Sunday.

The next competitions are Saturday the 6th shotgun from 1.30pm and Sunday the 7th centrefire field rifle from 10am followed by centrefire lever action.

Sunday was a 300mm fly match with a warmer and four to count targets (possible score 240). Consistent junior Roy Ewin (yes he will be a junior for a couple of years yet) took the day with 232 followed by Greg Chapman. Full results on the website later in the week as I left the result sheet at the range. It is pleasing to see the number of juniors competing, particularly in rimfire bench. Today Tyler Chapman was the only junior but he finished a credible 8th from 15.

Next weekend the range will be closed to casual shooters because of the Blue Heeler, but as always, spectators are very welcome.

Recently we were required to replace the range flags with much larger ones. As is usual when something has to be done the Scott family stepped up. A big thank you to Fay Scott for making the new flags!

The weekend saw the Blue Heeler Classic, our major 500m fly shoot for the year. Both days ran very smoothly, mainly due to the efficiency of our target crew of Wal Scott, John Buik, David Wade, Arthur Robinson and Ryan Hall (a junior from Batemans Bay). The other standout was Bruce Milne who saved our bacon when the caterer cancelled at the last minute.

The 300m event on Saturday was won by local F Class shooter Rob Halloran, LeeAnn VanMeurs and Roy Ewin tied on second with LeeAnn coming out on top after a count back. Along the way LeeAnn shot a perfect target of 60.5.

On Sunday, at 500m, in heavy gun, it was Paul Read from Mike Bell and LeeAnn VanMeurs. In light gun it was Anthony Hall from Grant Groves and Mike Bell. Best target and smallest group in light gun went to Peter VanMeurs.

Sunday belonged to Paul Read, first in heavy gun, smallest group and best target in heavy gun and overall two day champion. If that wasn’t enough, Paul’s best heavy gun group of 0.955”, when ratified, will be a new national record (the record is currently held by John Butts).

Sunday the 1st is rimfire field rifle from 10am followed by rimfire silhouette.
The next shotgun shoot will be on Saturday the 7th of September (yes, there is an error on the program).

Ben Tredrea had the best of the juniors with 30 broken, then Andrew Wright and Tyler Chapman only one break apart.
The annual presentation will again be at the Rules Club on December the 4th.
In fairness to the juniors who do not shoot shotgun the junior point score was closed off when the rifle range was closed. However there will be medals for the first three junior places in shotgun.
